Brocade this week unveiled its distribution of the latest release of the OpenDaylight open source SDN controller. Brocade’s new SDN Controller 2.0 is based onOpenDaylight’s “Lithium” release, which debuted in July.
Lithium is OpenDaylight’s third SDN controller releaseand includes enhancements in security and automation, scalability, performance, OpenStack and group-based policy. Brocade specifically cites the improved interoperability and orchestration capabilities of the Lithium distribution, including extensions to the Open vSwitch Database interface and the OpenStack Modular Layer 2 plug-in, which enables cloud providers to use an open software stack to manage their data center infrastructure.
Another is clustering for improved scalability and stability, and a new user interface for applications to provide a consistent view of the network under control.
Brocade also rolled out two new internally-developed application for the controller: Topology Manager and Flow Manager. Topology Manager displays discovered network topology that enables administrators to create a list of nodes and conduct simple searches for nodes. Flow Manager allows users to view and interact with the network topology to perform traffic engineering and network segmentation based on end-to-end flow views.
The Brocade SDN Controller 2.0, Topology Manager and Flow Manager applications are available today.A free download of the SDN Controllerincludes 60 days of technical support. A production license for the SDN Controller is priced at $100 per attached node per year, including support.
The Topology Manager is a free application. The Flow Manager is priced at $40 per attached node per year including support.
